Kovago Voice Studio & Dr. Andrea Kovago

Dr. Andrea Kovago, lyric mezzo soprano comes to us from Calgary Alberta, Canada. A sought after performer throughout the United States and Canada, has performed steadily in the areas of opera, oratorio, chamber music and numerous solo and collaborative recitals throughout her career.

Dr. Kovago is a distinguished and well-respected voice teacher as well as an avid member of several professional affiliations. She has taught in numerous university and college settings all the while maintaining her private voice studio. This year marks the 33rd year of Dr. Kovago’s teaching career!  

Equally at home in opera venues and recitals, Dr. Kovago has often been a featured soloist with many distinguished organizations such as, The Oratorio Society of Minnesota, Bach Society of Minnesota, Exultate Chamber Choir and Orchestra, Minnetonka Choral Society, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and Kensington Sinfonia in Calgary, Le Choeur Québecois, Société philharmonique de Montréal, L’Ensemble Con Brio de Montréal and Le Choeur de Chambre du Québec.

Dr. Kovago made her recording debut in March of 2002. Since then, she has recorded a number of compact disks featuring her as alto soloist in such works as Bach’s B minor Mass, Bach’s Magnificat and Mozart’s Requiem, which are readily available at www.amazon.com, www.exultate.org and can be found on Spotify.

Alongside her professional endeavours and since establishing herself in Ottawa eleven years ago, she has become a prominent member in the Ottawa music community, where she currently serves as the Festival Chair for the NATS-NCR Vocal Festival competition. As music director and vocal coach, she has worked on shows like, The Awakening (Gladstone Theatre, Paper Picture Productions), Spamalot, (Greely Players Mar. 2024) Chicago, (Lost Baggage, Oct. 2023), Cinderella, (Greely Players Mar. 2023) and is now pleased to be working alongside esteemed and familiar Greely Players friends in this year’s lighthearted production of Grease!

She continues to work with, mentor, coach and adjudicate many aspiring singers and pianists, of which several have won countless 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards in the NATS Vocal Festival, Ottawa Piano Festival and the local and provincial Kiwanis Music Festival competition over the years. Proudly, several of her students have received prestigious monetary awards as well as prominent trophies like, the Goya Canadian Musical Theatre Award and the Miriam Anderson Trophy respectively.

Many of Dr. Kovago’s talented singers have also been accepted into several prestigious music and voice programs throughout Canada and the United States. Such institutions include, Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, New York, The University of Toronto, Dalhousie University, McGill and then AMDA (American Musical and Dramatic Academy).

Her piano students have repeatedly achieved several first class-honours with distinction and honours awards for their achievements with the Royal Conservatory of Music. Currently, Dr. Kovago is also an esteemed member of the Royal Conservatory of Music College of Examiners in Toronto. Alongside completing hundreds of remote voice exams each year, she often travels abroad to examine several in-person vocal candidates in Canada and the United States. 

She lives happily with her husband of 6 years and her beloved studio mascot and black cat, Oskar!

This studio thrives on excellence and I work very hard to provide the finest, most comprehensive private music education to all singers and pianists wishing to study, either for basic personal interest, or as they wish to pursue music degrees which may eventually lead to semi or professional careers some day!
